Marian "Maxine" Marshall Obituary

Marian Maxine (Mitchell) Marshall, 93, of Keokuk, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Monday, March 4, 2024, at River Hills Village in Keokuk, Iowa, surrounded by her family.

Maxine was born on October 9, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Gladys (Boyd) Mitchell of Montrose. On July 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to James A. Marshall in Montrose, Iowa. To this union, they welcomed three boys and two girls. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1988.

Maxine was baptized as an infant at Montrose Presbyterian Church was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, being baptized there as an adult. As a young girl, she loved to dance the jitterbug and roller skate. She attended Montrose Senior High and her first date was with the love of her life, Jim Marshall, at the Bluff Roller Rink in Montrose. She was employed as a waitress at the Keokuk Country Club for over thirty-five years, retiring in 1996. Maxine and Jim loved to travel and were blessed with trips with their family. She loved being with the kids in the nursery at church, holding Bible studies at her River Terrace, and helping others however she could. She always went above and beyond to make sure people felt welcome and her favorite thing was making people laugh. Maxine’s home was the place to be during the holidays in younger years, and as the kids grew up, she started attending special occasions at her children’s homes. She greatly appreciated all the hard work her daughters-in-law put into hosting. Maxine also loved going out to River Hills Village to play Bingo with the residents and watching the Cardinals play with her favorite catcher, Yadi Molina. Maxine moved to River Hills in 2018, and loved those who took care of her there.

Maxine is survived by two sons: Dennis (Michelle) Marshall and Todd Marshall, both of Keokuk; her daughter Jennifer (Dan) Oakland of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter-in-law Suann Marshall (Dennis) Hohn of Keokuk; son-in-law Rick (Teena) Cravens of Montrose; two sisters: Joan (Richard) Jordan of Keokuk and Joyce Kemper of Kahoka, Missouri; brother-in-law Ron Fowler of Keokuk; sister-in-law Gwen Miller of Danville, Iowa; fifteen grandchildren: Tammy (Jeff) Harper of Braymer, Missouri, Bryan Marshall of Keokuk, Tony (Rachel) Marshall of Quincy, Illinois, Tina (David) Keane of Burlington, PJ (Bobbi) Marshall of Fort Madison, Missy Stepp of Keokuk, Eric (Marita) Oakland of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, Katie (Michael) Lennon of Omaha, Nebraska, Marissa Marshall of North Liberty, Iowa, Elizabeth Marshall of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, Shy (Jeremy) Matlock of Keokuk, Shane Stepp of Keokuk, Westyn Fraher of Montrose, Diana (James) Ramsel of Upland, California, and Laura Elliot of Upland, California;  thirty great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren.
